If you plan on using a Milwaukee 5615, 5616, or 5619 router to do any type of routing needing a template guide (e.g., from the Porter-Cable 42000 kit), this accessory base is mandatory. A template guide is inserted into the base, which is designed to receive a guide -- a template guide screw-ring holds the guide in place.
The sub-base is constructed using the same material as the standard base, and it fits the router perfectly. The only difference is the size of the center hole, and the fact that it's designed to hold a template guide. This is a high-quality item and you should have no qualms about buying one.
We purchased this bit for cutting biscuit slots in window trim and cabinet face frames. It is a precsion, well made bit and very well balanced when used in our hand-held Porter Cable router. The instructions on the back of the package say that bits over 1-1/2" dia. should only be used with the router mounted in a router table. This bit is 1-27/32" dia. so using it free-hand is pushing the edge of safety. One issue is that because of the bit's diameter, unless your router has a large base, there is limited base surface to hold flush with your workpiece before you start plunging your cut. We used caution, took our time, and made successful cuts. The bit cuts effortlessly. It comes with three, interchangeable bearings to adjust the depth of the slot. The tool is made in Italy.
Excellent set of instructios and accessories to complete the job. I had the template in place and ready to cut in 15 minutes.
I especially liked the jigs you can make. This book is easy to understand and is full of ideas and inspiration.
I own many Woodline router bit sets, including this one, and every one of them has been very impressive with no exception. The bits are very well made with perfect carbide edges and never a scratch on any of them. They can cut all day without a problem. The cuts are always very smooth even when cuts are very aggressive using the larger bits.
The bits have a lifetime warranty which is an indicator of the faith Woodline has in their own product. Woodline's customer service was very helpful and courteous in the one occasion when I contacted them about a different product.
The 3-1/2" reducer collar to adapt my Bosch router to the Mast-R-Lift worked just as it's supposed to. If you get the Mast-R-Lift, make sure you check the listing to see whether you'll need a collar or not.
